Today's field
construction boilermaker is a vital part of construction project
team. We erect and repair pressure vessels, air pollution
equipment, blast furnaces, water treatment plants, storage and
process tanks, stacks and liners. An boilermaker could
be involved in the installation of a giant superheater section in
a large utility boiler, the erection of a 750,000-gallon water
storage tank, the placement of a nuclear power plant reactor dome,
or the construction of components on a hydroelectric power
station.
On May 19, 1947 Local Lodge 128
received its Charter from the International Brotherhood of
Boilermakers, as a Construction Lodge in the jurisdiction of the
Province of Ontario Canada. Starting with the 47 members listed on
the original document, we have seen tremendous growth over the 50
year period we have been operating in Ontario. Total membership
today is pushing close to 2000 with 1300 construction members and
another 600 shop members. The growth of Lodge 128 has
distinguished it as one of the largest locals in the international
Brotherhood.
Formal celebrations were held in August 1997 to mark our 50 year
milestone in Ontario. We can be proud of the fact that, together
through our past efforts, we have played an important role in the
future of this organization. We have faced numerous challenges
over the years, and is evident by the characteristics of today's
economy, there are yet many challenges that lie before us. Working
and facing these challenges together, however, we can guarantee a
bright, secure and prosperous future for our members and their
families.
We have always been recognized as one of the most progressive
Locals in the International and we continue to maintain that
recognition. The launching of our new website in the next few
months is yet one more
aspect of keeping our members current in an ever-changing
environment.
